"In Penzance's historic Chapel Street, the Artist Residence - one of two seaside Art Hotels (the other is in Brighton) - is truly eclectic. Each of its ten different rooms was decorated by local and British artists: some are graffiti-inspired (you can even draw on them yourself), others are girlie. Don't expect five-star luxuries; do expect purse-friendly fun and a casual vibe. Penzance is a jumping-off point for Mousehole, St Michael's Mount, the Isles of Scilly and Porthcurno and it has a sea-water filled outdoor public pool whose water level rises and falls with the tide. Unmissably retro."
